Beyond the search

When AI started reshaping search, we realised ranking for keywords wasn't enough anymore. This is the story of how we built a podcast to do what SEO alone couldn't — create a brand people actually recognised.

The problem

Search is changing faster than most SEO strategies can keep up with. AI Overviews, generative search results and zero-click behaviour are reshaping what it means to be visible online. Ranking for keywords is no longer enough - what matters increasingly is whether Google, and AI systems, consider you a legitimate, authoritative brand. We were a website. A good one, with strong content and solid technical foundations. But we were only a website.

The insight

Brands that exist across multiple platforms don't just reach more people. They signal legitimacy. They appear in AI-generated results because they are referenced, discussed and recognised beyond a single domain. Multi-platform presence isn't just a marketing nice-to-have anymore. In the age of AI search, it's an authority signal. I also saw a specific opportunity in the Finnish market - legislative changes in iGaming were creating genuine public debate, and nobody was owning that conversation in audio format.

What we built

I proposed and launched a podcast for our flagship Finnish brand. The strategy had three layers -giving our authors a new format to demonstrate expertise beyond written bylines, positioning the brand as the go-to source for commentary on Finnish iGaming legislation, and creating a new acquisition channel entirely separate from organic search.

We began reaching new audiences through audio first - listeners who discovered the brand through the podcast before ever visiting the website. During a period when organic visibility was under pressure, branded search held up.
